19-Inch Touchscreen Wind Sips On Less Energy than Most Light Bulbs

To be honest, netbooks scare me, but nettops scare me even more. Why do I need a neutered PC that isn’t portable? Well, at least the platform doesn’t need much power—even with a monitor.

The Wind Top AE1900 is an Atom 230-based system, supporting a max of 2GB of RAM on top of a 160GB hard drive, DVD burner, wireless n, card reader and webcam. But what makes it all exciting is the system’s 18.5-inch WSXGA 16:9 touch screen LCD, complete with a quick 5ms response time. You see, even with this much screen space, the computer needs only 45W to operate. And yes, that factoid is totally worth regurgitating my headline to reinforce that 45W is less than many light bulbs need.

As Rob at bbGadgets points out, “Now, I’m almost certain I had an Apple monitor that looked just like this about 7 years ago…” We’re pretty sure, too. The crazy thing is that this whole computer will cost thousand(s) less than that Apple Studio Display when it comes out to an undisclosed market at an undisclosed time. [MSI via bbGadgets]

If You Want a Big HDTV, You Can Buy It Cheap Now

The LA Times says now’s the time to buy an HDTV, since you can get one for ridiculously cheap. The HD Guru told us why, and what TVs you can score the craziest deals on.

The reason TVs are really cheap right now, he told us, is that typically, new TVs ship in the middle of summer. This year, however, they’re coming out in April and May, so they’ve got to clear out all their inventory—which they have more of than they expected—faster than usual. Meaning you can get 2008 models at steep discounts, especially as the new TVs get closer to hitting store shelves.

You’re also probably gonna find better deals on TVs bigger than 46 inches, because they have the largest overstock right now. HD Guru specifically mentioned a glut of 52-inch TVs, so if you’re looking for something in that size, now’s a sweet time. Before you go, don’t forget to check out our complete guide to buying an HDTV. [LA Times]

The Demy: A Touchscreen Recipe Box that Withstands Spaghetti Sauce

I’ve been known to lug my laptop into the kitchen, risking the primary link to my job/friends/entertainment for the perfect Bolognese. The Demy looks like a solid alternative to this stupidity.

It’s a touchscreen LCD the size of a 5×7 card, coated to be splashproof in your kitchen. Syncing via USB to your account at keyingredient.com (the only supported service), the system stores up to 2500 recipes that you can access through what looks to be a pretty clean interface—though for some reason the platform eschews food porn photography.UPDATE: Apparently any recipe can include a photo of the dish, it’s just that most of the press shots don’t.

Available in May for $300, the Demy (in the works since 2007) is really just a touchscreen digital photo frame that’s been retrofitted with a handy service. But who cares? It’s also the most promising kitchen gadget I’ve seen in some time. [Demy and Amazon via popgadget]

First Look At The Tesla Model S Electric Car’s Giant Touchscreen Dashboard

We just a good look at the crazy touchscreen console in the Tesla Model S electric Sedan, the most interesting feature of which is that it has a 3G connection all the time.

In addition to that, there’s the center console’s controls, which are full touchscreen, can manipulate your iPod, Google Maps as well as streaming radio. There’s HD, AUX, USB and iPod input to the car, so that covers the major device you’d be able to use too. The current design looks really busy at first glance, but that’s probably because the entire console takes the place of what used to be a slew of buttons and knobs and dials.

The RFID tag is also very interesting. When you walk up to the car, the Model S detects your RFID keytag and pops out the handles for you. When you want to start up the car, there’s no start button. You just sit there and wait for the car to detect your RFID presence.

Now, know this. My sisters boyfriend fixed this computer for me so its rather new. I mean, its an old model, Its a Dell Inspiron, but it broke and he just fixed it up again. He put in this card for me and hooked up the computer and everything. He never got drivers or updates or whatever you need. I really want to be able to play games but everytime I try Ill get something like:

“Does not support shader model 1.1″

or “Install Direct X and -something I forgot-

I KNOW that all these errors should not occur. This -I think- is a fairly new and decent graphics card. So can anyone answer my question? D: thanks in advance.
