Resolved Question: My newly installed Pny Verto Geforce 8500 GT plays next gen games great but freezes video playback in Win xp?
AMD Ath 3800+ Proc 2.4 ghz 2 GB Ram Win XP 32 bit, SP 2, Dx 9.0c Video Card: PNY Verto GeForce 8500 GT, 512mb, PCI Exp x16*I got new b/c old wdn’t hndl Bioshock. After few headaches got the video card and all my games working. The card plays Bioshock at high frame rate at 1440 x 900. The game never slows down and look beautiful. The prob is when I try to run any sort of video on Windows Mediaplayer (and some other programs) it freezes my comp, although it will play the sound for .wmv files. Sometimes if I wait 10 minutes it will unlock my computer, but usually I have to do a hard reset on my tower. Also, when I try to fiddle with the nvidia settings it sometimes freezes when I change video playback settings. Prior to installing this card I had no issues. I have done the basics: reinstalled drivers (and of course, I always uninstall the old ones first), tried the new beta drivers and the windows signed drivers, ran spyware, ran registry clnrs, checked temps(all ok). Pls hlp.
Ok, I tried the ffdshow suggestion and that did not help. I also installed Windows Media Player 11, and still the same. Finally, I went through Windows Help and it suggested I go into advanced display settings and disable hardware acceleration. This did the trick, videos now play and no system freeze. Problem now is I have to switch back and forth between hardware accelerated for games and non for video (which require restart). Any suggestions given the new info??
I fixed problem. My friend suggested I uninstall the drivers I had and reinstall the ones that came in the card packaging while in safe mode. (I had updated to the newest ones) This worked, I can now play games and watch videos on my cpu. I have noticed a very slight performance drop while playing Bioshock but it is minor.
Thanks for the suggestions.
